What your wedding venue really costs
A restaurant reception and a rented hall put different things on the bill. Here’s how to compare them.

Start with the meal, the room, and the bar
Ask each venue to price the same guest count, event hours, meal, and drinks. A restaurant may include its tables, kitchen, and service team. A hall may quote the space while you arrange catering, bartenders, and rentals separately. Both can work beautifully. The useful comparison is the total for the same celebration.
Put the ceremony on its own line if it’s somewhere else. A City Hall appointment followed by a restaurant reception needs a different budget from a ceremony and dinner at one venue.
Two real bookings, two different bills
One Venice restaurant reception was recorded at $19,965 for an initial 100 guests, with dinner and a drinks package discussed. The couple expected the guest count to grow, so this was a booked amount, not the final bill.
A 75-guest ceremony at a Salt Lake City hall was recorded at $3,750. That record covers the venue booking. Food and drinks weren’t documented as part of it, so it would be misleading to present $50 per guest as the cost of a catered wedding.
These are anonymized examples from our booking records, reviewed October 22, 2026. They show the scope behind the number, not an average or a current venue offer. The records don’t itemize tax and fees well enough to compare those charges.

The number that changes the comparison
If the venue has a food and drink minimum, ask what counts toward it. A smaller guest list may lower the menu bill while leaving the minimum unchanged. A $12,000 minimum for 60 guests still requires $12,000 of eligible spending if 50 attend; the agreement determines how any shortfall is charged.
Ask for separate lines for the room, food, drinks, service charge, tax, and any required rentals. Then add the choices that matter to your plans, such as a longer bar package or an extra hour. Keep photography, clothing, and other wedding purchases outside the venue comparison.

Estimated total
Per invited guest
Illustrative figures, not a venue quote. Service charge and gratuity apply to guest food, drinks, and vendor meals. Room rental and other costs are entered as an all-in amount. Confirm the applicable rates and taxable items with the venue.
