Why people host events here
Fig Tree sits directly on the Venice Beach Boardwalk. Not near the boardwalk. On it. Your guests eat with the Pacific Ocean at the horizon, palm trees overhead, and the kind of golden-hour light that only happens at the coast. It is one of the few restaurants in Los Angeles where your event is genuinely on the beach.
The restaurant has been a Venice neighborhood staple since 1978. The current owners, Matias, Sophia, and Dashiell, took over in 2020 and brought a California-Latin direction to the kitchen while keeping the laid-back boardwalk energy that made the original Fig Tree a local institution. Executive Chef Dashiell Nathanson builds menus around seasonal California produce with Latin flavors: think rockfish ceviche with coconut milk, whole grilled fish with mole morado, and cocktails mixed with mole bitters and agave rum.
For private events, Fig Tree offers something you cannot easily find elsewhere in LA: multiple distinct outdoor and indoor spaces, all with the ocean in the background, at a price point that works for most occasions. It is not trying to be a formal event venue. It is a beachfront restaurant that happens to have the rooms, the team, and the flexibility to host a great private party.
This is the venue for the person who wants their guests to feel like they are on vacation for the evening. The sand is 30 feet away. The sunset is free.
The spaces
Fig Tree has four distinct event spaces. Each has a different feel, capacity, and best-fit use case. You can book them individually or combine them for larger events up to a full buyout.
Beach Front Patio
20 to 60 guests · Semi-private
The signature space. Open-air seating directly facing the ocean and the boardwalk. This is where the sunset is. Works for cocktail receptions, seated dinners, and celebrations where atmosphere matters more than enclosure. The patio can be reserved exclusively for your group during your event window.
Best for: birthday dinners, engagement parties, welcome dinners, cocktail receptions, bridal showers.
Garden Patio
15 to 40 guests · Semi-private
A lush, sheltered courtyard with floral installations by co-owner Sophia Moreno-Bunge's design company ISA ISA. More intimate than the beachfront patio, with a garden feel that works well for seated dinners and daytime events. The greenery and warm wood textures create a different energy from the oceanside seating.
Best for: rehearsal dinners, milestone birthdays, bridal showers, corporate dinners, family celebrations.
CUEVA Private Bar
20 to 50 guests · Private
The newest addition. A 50-seat indoor space adjacent to the main restaurant with a Pietra Gray marble bar, hand-painted art, and weekly floral installations. CUEVA can be booked as a standalone private event space with its own bar service. This is the most enclosed option at Fig Tree and the closest to a traditional private dining room.
Best for: cocktail parties, corporate events, holiday parties, product launches, film industry events.
Full Buyout
80 to 120 guests · Private
Rent the entire restaurant for your event. All spaces, the full bar, the kitchen, and the boardwalk views are exclusively yours. Full buyouts work for weddings, large corporate events, milestone celebrations, and any occasion where you want the group to have the run of the place. Available for evening and weekend events.
Best for: weddings, large birthday parties, corporate celebrations, fundraisers, holiday parties.
The food and drink
Fig Tree's kitchen does California-Latin cuisine with seasonal ingredients. The menu changes regularly, but the direction stays consistent: fresh, coastal, colorful, and shareable. For private events, the team works with you to build a custom menu that fits your group, your budget, and the format of the evening.
For seated dinners, expect family-style or prix fixe options built around dishes like ceviche, grilled fish, seasonal salads, and Latin-inflected sides. The food is designed to be shared, which suits the communal feel of the space.
For cocktail events, the bar program is a strength. Craft cocktails with ingredients like mole bitters, agave rum, and house-made syrups alongside a curated wine list and local craft beer. Passed appetizers and small plates work well in the patio and CUEVA spaces.
For brunch and daytime events, Fig Tree is one of the few beachfront venues in LA that offers morning and afternoon private dining. Think bridal showers, baby showers, and casual birthday brunches with ocean views and fresh coffee. The breakfast happy hour (8 to 9 AM weekdays) gives you an idea of the daytime menu direction.
Dietary accommodations
The kitchen works with vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free needs regularly. The Latin-California menu style naturally accommodates a range of diets because it leans heavily on seafood, vegetables, and grains. Communicate dietary requirements when you finalize the menu, and the chef will adjust courses or build alternative plates.
What you need to know
Location: 431 Ocean Front Walk, Venice, CA 90291. Directly on the Venice Beach Boardwalk between Rose Avenue and Brooks Avenue. The restaurant faces the ocean.
Parking: Venice Beach parking is what it is. There is no private lot. The closest public lots are the Venice Beach Parking Lot on Pacific Avenue and metered street parking along the surrounding blocks. Ride-share drop-off at Rose Avenue and Speedway is the smoothest arrival. For events, communicate parking details to your guests in advance and suggest they budget 15 minutes for the walk from the lot.
Hours: Open daily 8 AM to 8:30 PM (until 9 PM Friday and Saturday). Private events can be scheduled during or after regular hours depending on the space and the size of the group.
Capacity: 10 to 50 guests per individual space. Up to 120 for a full buyout.
Weather: The beachfront and garden patios are outdoors. Venice weather is mild year-round, but evening events in winter months can get cool. Ask the events team about heater availability and any weather contingency options. CUEVA is the fully enclosed backup.
AV and music: Fig Tree has a curated sound program. Ask about AV capabilities for presentations or slideshows, particularly in CUEVA. The outdoor spaces have ambient sound but are not set up for PA systems or amplified speeches.
Questions about private events at Fig Tree
For weekend evening events, 4 to 6 weeks is recommended. Summer weekends and the holiday season (November through January) fill earlier. Weekday events and daytime bookings are easier to secure on shorter notice. If you have a specific date in mind, inquire early to hold the space.
Yes. Fig Tree hosts wedding receptions, rehearsal dinners, and post-wedding brunches. Full buyouts are the most common format for wedding receptions, giving your guests access to all the spaces. The beachfront patio provides a natural backdrop for photos and toasts. The floral design (handled in-house by co-owner Sophia through ISA ISA) is a bonus most venues cannot match.
Ask the events team about heater availability for your specific date. Venice evenings are mild most of the year, but December through February can get cool after sunset. If temperature is a concern for your event, CUEVA offers a fully enclosed indoor alternative with its own bar.
Check with the events team on outside food policies. Fig Tree's kitchen can prepare dessert courses as part of your event menu, and custom cake or dessert options may be available. If you have a specific bakery or cake in mind, ask when you finalize the menu and they will let you know what is possible.
Simple decorations are generally welcome. The garden patio and CUEVA already have significant design elements (floral installations, art, natural textures), so heavy decoration is usually unnecessary. Ask the events team about specific items and early access for setup if needed.
